Efficiently paint glass in an industrial environment.

Opaque, transparent or effect glass coatings for furniture, kitchens, bathrooms, doors and facades.

Functional and decorative glass coating

Coating can offer protection and add highlights

Glass is translucent, clear, non-combustible and at the same time has good resistance to weathering. This building material offers more application possibilities than any other material. Its chemical and mechanical resilience are also both very high. The coating of glass can offer protection, but also add highlights. Many colour variations and effects are only made possible by lacquering.

You will find we have a whole range of products for lacquering glass. These include HYDRO lacquers, UV lacquers but also products deriving from UV- excimer technology. Fat glass can in principle be easily coated using the industrial lacquering process. Which application method do you use? Do you use spraying machines, a curtain coater or UV rollers? We will provide you with a suitable product recommendation for each application type.

From experience we can say that glass coating is worthwhile even in small quantities, but it is the series production of large quantities that is attractive and profitable. Whether it’s facade glass, kitchen splashbacks, shower cubicles, shop windows or the transparent protection of digital prints. Even the intrinsic colour of float glass can be influenced by lacquering. We have therefore divided all glass applications into stress classes from A – G. The individual classes clearly show which lacquer can withstand normal furniture demands, UV radiation, water vapour or chemical and mechanical demands.

Water-based glass coatings

A sustainable finish

In the case of water-based glass coatings, the volatile organic compounds (VOC) are replaced by water. They are therefore almost odourless during application and drying, they are low-emission in the sense of the VOC/Decopaint Directive and they meet the requirements for public tenders.

Radiation-hardening glass coatings

All of the advantages in one product

Radiation-hardening glass coatings provide optimal protection against external influences and are very eco-friendly compared to other hardening techniques or industrial manufacturing technologies.

We distinguish between two main techniques for radiation-hardening glass coatings: conventional UV lacquers and UV lacquers that are excimer -hardened. Radiation-hardening coatings are nothing new, but excimer technology is. Radiation-hardening coatings have some important advantages over other hardening techniques. UV glass coatings are practically solvent -free and have a solids content of almost 100 %, so are very eco-friendly. Renewable raw materials are moreover used in some cases.

Ceramic or organic colours?

Saving energy with glass coating

There are several ways to colour glass surfaces in industrial production. Firstly, there is the possibility of using ceramic colours. This involves baking a coloured, inorganic layer onto the surface of the glass. It results in very durable and resilient coatings. The process is however very energy-intensive, both in terms of the production of the coloured glass frits and the actual coating process.

An alternative to this is lacquering with organic materials. Both the production of the lacquer and the lacquering process are very energy-saving compared to ceramic coating. This also gives them a clear environmental advantage. Further advantages are a greater variety of colours, different application technologies and the possibility to produce small batches efficiently.

Very few materials today have the aspiration to last for centuries. The quality of the lacquer surfaces is so good that they are suitable for most uses. This applies without restriction to indoor areas.

Application techniques

Flexible and efficient

Glass coatings can be processed in different ways and require professional and sensitive handling during coating. This is because important aspects must be taken into account with the three different application techniques of spraying, rolling and curtain coating . While manual coating by spraying allows very flexible and efficient work when coating small batches and individual parts, automated rolling offers the coating of large quantities of glass. Curtain coating technology is in turn impressive due to its high throughput speed and low risk of glass breakage. But before the processor decides on an application , they should carefully weigh up the advantages and disadvantages and be clear about the production volume.
