Are you still coating high-quality surfaces using solvent-based lacquer systems, but looking for an easy and uncomplicated way to contribute to the protection of our planet? Then a significant reduction in CO2 emissions is quite simple:
raw material producer COVESTRO has conducted a large-scale environmental study which determined that the use of hydro lacquer systems instead of solvent-based lacquers can result in CO2 savings of up to 1 kg/m² of coated surface. Okay, this doesn't look like much at first glance, but let's take a closer look:
even if you “only” coat 20 m² a day, you’ve already saved 20 kg of CO2. At 100 m² of coated surface, you’d have saved as much CO2 as you would consume on a car journey of around 500 km! (given an average diesel consumption of 7.5 l/100 km).
That's quite a correlation, isn't it?
And the savings look quite different again if you’re the one to start, and all the other processors of solvent-based PU systems follow your example:
a very rough estimate of the consumption of solvent-based PU systems
(for coating furniture) in Germany during 2021 was around 10,750,000 ltr/kg.
So 1 : 1 replacement of this quantity with water-based lacquer systems
could result in saving 10,750,000 kg of CO2.
(Equivalent to the CO2 emissions from a journey covering almost 540,000 km, so almost 14 times around our planet!)
That would definitely be a major contribution to sustainability and the protection of planet earth! But above all without any significant effort and without any relinquishment, except for solvents.
And there are also no disadvantages whatsoever for your end customer. On the contrary, they continue to receive high-quality, exclusive lacquered surfaces. And what’s more, they’re even odourless!
Many processors are already enjoying the advantages of water-based lacquer in their application and are very impressed by it. We’re currently supporting some of our customers in their changeover phase.
